Beijing (PingWest)- Data collected from Tesla Inc’s electric cars in China is stored in China, according to Tao Lin, the vice president of Tesla China.

“Our data is very well protected. Chinese data is stored in China,” Tao Lin said.

The executive also said Tesla would share its data collecting from its China-made Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility with the Chinese government.

The statement of Tesla China executive is a series of response to China’s crackdown on Tesla due to national security concerns.

Starting in March, Chinese government placed tighter scrutiny on Tesla that restricted military personnel and state workers from using Tesla vehicle.

“After investigation and tests, Tesla vehicles can expose the location of targets with in-car technical devices including 360-degree cameras and ultrasound sensors. To ensure the absolute safety of military secrets, military residential areas ban Tesla vehicles from driving inside and parking at the areas. We will also routinely investigate the vehicles entering into our residential areas, we hope every tenants and family members to cooperate with us,” a screenshot of an inform letters at a military accommodation complex banning Tesla vehicles went viral on Chinese social media.

Speaking at the China Development Forum held in Beijing on March 20, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has dismissed the concerns by saying his company would be shut down if Tesla’s vehicles were used for spying.
