Beijing (PingWest)—The Group of 20 (G20) major economies on Thursday pledged to present a "united front" against the common threat posed by COVID-19, while vowing to inject over 5 trillion U.S. dollars to boost the global economy.

As the pandemic is raging across the globe, the G20 leaders met over video. Photos from the session showed leaders all beaming into the session from their offices or homes.

At the opening of the meeting, Saudi King Salman, this year's G20 president, said the "human crisis requires a global response. The world counts on us to come together and cooperate in order to face this challenge."

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech titled "Working Together to Defeat the COVID-19 Outbreak" at the videoconference.

Xi called on all G20 members to take collective actions - cutting tariffs, removing barriers, and facilitating the unfettered flow of trade, Xinhua News Agency reported. “Together, we can send a strong signal and restore confidence for global economic recovery. The G20 needs to draw up an action plan and promptly set up communication mechanisms and institutional arrangements for anti-epidemic macro-policy coordination," he said.

In a joint statement released after the conference, the G20 countries said they were committed to doing whatever it takes to overcome the pandemic and would spare no effort to protect lives, safeguard people's jobs and preserve financial stability.

According to Guy Diedrich, VP and Global Innovation Officer at Cisco, the G20 teleconference was using Cisco's online meeting service WebEx.

The members of the G20 are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.
