On Wednesday, Huawei Technologies and Xiaomi Inc signed a global patent cross-licensing agreement that covers multiple communications technologies including 5G.

In January, China National Intellectual Property Administration accepted Huawei's patent infringement lawsuit against Xiaomi as the plaintiff. Huawei sued Xiaomi over tech infringement of four registered patents mainly related to wireless communication technology, smartphone photography and screen lock technology.

Apart from Ericsson and Xiaomi, Huawei has signed nearly 200 bilateral licensing agreements with tech companies such as Oppo and South Korea’s Samsung, with over 350 companies obtaining Huawei patent licenses through a patent pool. In 2022 alone, 29 companies from regions including China, the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea signed bilateral agreements with Huawei and paid for Huawei patent licenses. Huawei's patent licensing revenue in 2022 was approximately $560 million.
