Tiktok owner ByteDance has announced its decision to close down a cloud-based album application that was introduced almost eight years ago. As a result, users are now hurrying to download their accumulated years of photos and videos stored on the app.

Everphoto is a cloud album app under the umbrella of ByteDance, featuring intimate sharing of photos. It employs the same cloud computing architecture as ByteDance’s news aggregator Jinri Toutiao" and short video Douyin.

Everphoto will officially cease its operation starting from November 15, 2023. At that time, all functionalities will be discontinued, and all app download links will be closed.

Users will retain the ability to browse and download their previously archived photos and videos until the closing date. However, as per the statement on its app and website, they will no longer have the capacity to save or distribute any new photos or videos starting immediately.

Everphoto swiftly emerged as one of China's most favored cloud-based albums since it was launched in 2015, This popularity could be attributed to its incorporation of advanced capabilities like automated facial recognition and organized photo archiving. The creation of Everphoto was attributed to Shanghai Time Infinite Technology Co., a company that came under the ownership of ByteDance in 2017.

NetEase, China's second-largest video gaming company, terminated its cloud album service in May 2019 after maintaining it for 16 years. Similarly, the cloud album application associated with the Chinese video platform Youku, owned by Alibaba Group Holding, was shuttered in January of the previous year, attributed to "business adjustments." Users were advised to relocate their files to Alibaba Cloud.

The vanishing of specialized photo storage and management applications has gained momentum alongside the rising prominence and reduced expenses of cloud services in China.
