Inflection AI, an artificial intelligence startup headquartered in San Francisco, recently secured $1.3 billion in a fresh funding round from Microsoft, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt and Nvidia.

The money will go towards continuing to build Infection AI's initial product, Pi (Personal A.I.), a personal assistant and companion that was introduced in May.

The company described Pi as "a teacher, coach, confidante, creative partner, and sounding board" who can be contacted immediately through social media or WhatsAp.

Since the Inflection’s founding at the beginning of 2022, fundraising has totaled $1.525 billion.

Prior to this latest funding round, Inflection AI had already garnered significant investor support. In early 2022, the company raised $225 million from a group of investors, which included some of the same backers involved in the recent funding round. Notable investors from the previous round included Mike "Schrep" Schoepfer, the former Chief Technology Officer of Meta, and Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind. Additionally, pop artist Will.i.am also participated as an investor in that round.

Inflection AI is driven by the ambition to develop a universal digital assistant powered by artificial intelligence. This vision aligns with the perspective of numerous technologists, including Bill Gates, who envision this type of assistant as the future of human-computer interaction.

The CEO of Inflection AI is Mustafa Suleyman, who co-founded the company. Suleyman is a notable figure in the field, having previously co-founded DeepMind, an advanced AI research lab, alongside Demis Hassabis in 2012. DeepMind was subsequently acquired by Google in 2014 for approximately $650 million. Another co-founder of Inflection AI is Reid Hoffman, who co-founded PayPal and LinkedIn, as well as being an early supporter of OpenAI.
