Blockchain gaming unicorn Animoca Brands raises US$100 million in latest funding round led by Temasek.

Hong Kong-headquartered blockchain gaming unicorn Animoca Brands has raised US$100 million in latest funding round led by Singapore state-owned investment firm Temasek.

According to report from Bloomberg, Temasek will lead Animoca's financing round through convertible bonds.

The latest funding round came short after Animoca closed a $75 million financing in July, which is the second tranche of funding following a $360 million raise in January 2022. Venture capital includes Sequoia China, Winklevoss Capital, Liberty City Ventures, Kingsway Capital, Alpha Wave Ventures have all participated the funding round.

Animoca brands is now valued at US$ 6 billion.

 Hong-Kong based Animoca Brands was founded by Hong Kong tech entrepreneur Siu Yat in 2014. The company owns and developed a broad portfolio of blockchain-based game like the Sandbox, as well as Formula 1, Revv racing, Crazy Kings, Crazy Defense Heros.

In 2015, Animoca Brands went public on the shell through the acquisition of ASX-listed Black Fire Mineral.

In order to expand its influence in the NFT sector and achieve its goal to build powerful metaverse ecosystem, Animoca Brands make more than 200 investments in NFT-related platform and companies, most notable case including the world’s largest NFT marketplace OpenSea and the creator of trendy and hit Etherum-based play-to-earn blockchain game Axie Infinity, Dapper Labs (the owner of Cyrpokitties and NBA top shot).

The company is also a partner of Yuga Labs, the creator of the popular NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Animoca’s latest fundraise comes at the time when investors are selling off risky assets including cryptocurrency amid tightening of monetary policies in major Western economies

Temasek had made a heavy investment in blockchain-based cryptocurrency, participating in multiple investment rounds for large crypto companies, such as Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange.
