ByteDance accelerates e-commerce push with launch of Fanno shopping app in Europe

Tiktok owner ByteDance accelerated its push into e-commerce with a new shopping app called Fanno that target selected market across Europe.  

The Fanno app has already been released ahead of Black Friday last month on both Apple’s App store and Google Play for users in Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain.  Black Friday is an annual shopping festival falling on last Friday of November for consumers in US and other Western countries, so any pre-shopping event or product launch can hugely promote sales and raise brand awareness during waves of the annual shopping season.  

According to market research firm App Annie, UK and Italy are the best performing market for Fanno among the five key markets, Fanno was ranked No.144 and 185 for the most downloaded iOS apps in UK and Italy, respectively, in the same period.  

In order to grow its user base, Fanno currently offers free shipping for orders with no minimum order value and big discount products that cost as cheap as USD0.01 for new users to choose from.  

According to the ByteDance representative, Fanno run independently and separately from TikTok Shopping, a new shopping feature that was launched by TikTok in August through partnership with Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify. TikTok Shopping feature now allows users in U.S and UK to buy goods directly through the app, it will later cover more countries.  

In mainland China, Douyin, the Chinese sister app of Tiktok, had already built up a e-commerce ecosystem within the app, ByteDance is said to launch a stand-along shopping app called Douyin Box in the upcoming months.
