Baidu Launches Cloud Based Virtual Smartphone In China

Beijing (PingWest)- Chinese search engine and artificial intelligent giant Baidu has released a cloud phone for consumers in China, it is a virtual mobile phone that allow user to run Android app on the cloud.

The announcement of new flagship version of Baidu Cloud phone came after the company invested CNY2 billion to build industry base for cloud phone in July.

According to Baidu, its cloud phone is based on the Arm architecture that combine ARM server, cloud computing, Arm virtualization technology developed by Baidu.

The cloud phone equips with Arm quad-core processers, making it to run on 4GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. It supports 4K resolution, 4,096 video code rate, 60 frame rates, compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit systems

Baidu has developed arm-based servers since 2013, the company later extend the arm-based application to cloud phone in 2015.

Baidu Cloud Phone can allow user to bypass hardware performance limitation of their smartphone, all apps can run in the cloud and user can remotely control the Cloud Phone.

Baidu Cloud Phone currently covers four major application scenarios, namely cloud games, cloud applications, cloud VR and cloud office.

In terms of cloud application, Baidu cloud mobile also serve user’s need for live-streaming, and other kinds of entertainment such as content monitoring for live and short video apps.

The cloud phone so far is available for the Chinese market only, it comes with various packages for service including daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual.

Cloud based electronic products is an emerging trend in China, with a few tech giants ventured into the sector.

In September, Alibaba unveiled a palm-size cloud PC that weighs only 60 grams and has no localhost or CPU.
