Beijing (PingWest) — Baidu Mobile Ecosystem Group (MEG) is rumored to build its live streaming team, according to Sina Tech. Gu Feng, aka Chen Luojin will serve as the head of the newly formed team and will report his work to Ping Xiaoli, vice president and general manager of Baidu app.
Baidu did not immediately respond to requests for comments.
Shen Dou, executive vice president at Baidu, announced that Baidu will actively promote the live streaming services this year at Baidu 2020 Mobile Ecosystem Conference on May 13.
Ping said on the conference that Baidu would subsidize RMB500 million to train 1,000 top live streamers.
Gu Feng started to pivot the live streaming service at YY, a communication social platform, with partners in early 2012. The innovation led the trend of live streaming in China by chance. YY gaming live streaming spun off from YY in 2014 to become independent, and was changed to the name of Huya live streaming by Gu Feng in November, 2014. Huya became an independent company in August 2016.
Gu Feng joined Baidu to lead the live streaming services in the company, in a bid to leap the service to the top position in the industry.
