Beijing (PingWest)—Kevin Mayer, the executive of Disney's streaming business, will join TikTok, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, announced today.
According to the announcement, starting from June 1, Mayer will become the CEO of TikTok as well as the COO of the ByteDance.
“In his role as COO, Kevin will lead music, gaming, Helo, emerging businesses, and will serve as CEO of TikTok, leading the rapidly growing platform as it continues to build its global community of creators, users, and brands," said the announcement.
After joining the company, Mayer will be responsible for driving the global development of ByteDance, as well as overseeing corporate functions including corporate development, sales, marketing, public affairs, security, moderation, and legal.
Zhang Yiming, CEO and founder of ByteDance, said that Mayer's joining will bring the company his successful experience in global business and help the company continue to build a world-class management team. "I'm looking forward to working with Mayer to continue to promote the company’s global development," said Zhang.
Mayer’s biggest achievement at Disney was leading the development of Disney Plus, the company’s streaming service that launched in November.
TikTok was downloaded 315 million times from January through March, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower. It now has 2 billion downloads, double its total from just 15 months ago.
