Douyu will charge commissions from brands on the basis of their sales volume.

Users are able to purchase goods in the live-streaming rooms, where products come from a variety of e-commerce platforms, including Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall and JD.com. Different from normal live streamings on Taobao, JD.com and pindu0douo, Douyu added live streamers PK features, allowing live streamers with similar number of fans to compete to sell goods. The one sells more products can offer more discounts to live stream viewers.

It is not the first time that Douyu tested to do e-commerce live streaming. It has partnered with Taobao to support item purchase in one of the top live streamer Feng Timo’s live-streaming room on the Single’s Day (November 11, 2016,  in 2016.

“I think it was a failure because e-commerce was not combined with her acting in the live stream. In another word, Feng did not sell products, but just sang songs.”
