Beijing (PingWest)—February 13, SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture between SAIC Motor, General Motors, and Liuzhou Wuling Motors Co Ltd., produced the first batch of face masks in its own car factory.

A week ago, the Guangxi Province-based automaker announced that it would set up 14 mask production lines to produce N95 masks and surgical masks. The daily production capacity is expected to reach more than 1.7 million, providing strong support for epidemic prevention and control.

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile has been granted the relevant qualifications for mask R & D, production, and operation. At the same time, it's also the first automobile company to obtain the Permits for Medical Device Operation and pass a professional examination.

The sharp spread of the novel coronavirus has plunged China into dilemma of face masks shortage. To improve this situation, several manufacturing companies have changed their production lines to make masks.
