Shenzhen government officials released new regulations on tobacco control in the city on their website on Monday, January 28. The upgraded tobacco control order is open to public comments and further revision may be needed, reports The Beijing News.

Under the new regulations, e-cigarettes are banned in public places. Additionally, tobacco-free zones extend to all public transportation stations such as bus stops, taxi stands, subway stations, railway stations, and airports. Residents of Shenzhen will not be able to smoke within five meters of a subway entrance.

It will also be illegal to sell tobacco within 100 meters of school zones as well. This rule aims to protect minors from becoming addicted to tobacco.

If someone is found smoking in tobacco free zones, they could potentially be fined 50 RMB (7.4 USD). Smokers who refuse to stop smoking would be fined 2000 RMB (295 USD) and those who threaten police safety would be fined 500 RMB (74 USD).
