February 14, 2019 1:34 pm

China completes third phase of 5G tests on Jan 23, according to The Paper, and its 5G base stations and core network are ready for commercial use.

Dependent on the completion of technical tests, the Chinese government will begin issuing temporary 5G licenses to operators to push the large-scale construction of 5G networks. China is also in the midst of planning the launch of 5G services in terminal devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

The temporary licenses are expected to be issued on May 17 this year, which is World Telecommunications Day.

China’s three telecom operators, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom have called for bids. China Mobile says five telecommunications equipment and consumer electronics manufacturers, including Huawei and ZTE, won the bidding.
