China releases a rule allowing drones for business use

February 14, 2019 0:22 pm

China’s Civil Aviation Administration released a rule on trial drone operation, accepting applications for commercial drone use in certain areas, reports Beijing Business Today.

The rule requires safety risk assessment for drone operation. There are three assessments, based on weight: those weighing between 25 to 150kg; those with take-off weight between 7 to 25 kg with high risk; and those weighing over 150kg with low risk.

Ecommerce companies are stepping into drone delivery nowadays, which reduces human cost compared to conventional delivery systems. Chinese ecommerce giant JD.com, retail giant Suning, and top delivery service company SF Express are all developing their drone delivery systems.
