Clock Ticking on Bytedance's TikTok's Music Deals

Beijing (PingWest)– Bytedance's TikTok (aka Douyin), an app for creating and sharing short videos, will soon see their licensing deals with music companies expire in just two weeks, according to an insider.

Tiktok allows users to add snippets of music to their own videos, a process that needs music licenses from the three major companies: Vivendi, Sony, and Warner Bros., who collectively control about 80% of music globally. If TikTok cannot renew the deal, they face losing access to more than 100,000 songs on their platforms.
