Baidu Inks Deal with China Huaneng Group For Digitalization of Energy Industry in China

Beijing (PingWest)- Chinese search engine giant Baidu has inked a collaboration agreement with China Huaneng Group to accelerate the power utility’s digital transformation.

According to the terms of the memorandum of understanding, two companies will cooperate on various areas including creation of automated financial shared service platforms, as well as application of AI and big data technologies to the energy and power filed.

Additionally, the partnership will develop energy-related data services that are more digitized, intelligent, and connected to the Internet, which will drive the intelligent upgrading of China's energy industry.

The partnership is part of Baidu's long-term investments in AI technologies, cloud computing, and big data capabilities, aiming to apply technologies in various industries including energy, transportation, education, and finance.

Commenting on the partnership, Baidu’s Chief Technology Officer Haifeng Wang said “China's economy is turning to the direction of high-quality development, and AI is a new kinetic energy and new engine that will drive this high-quality development, it is hoped that Huaneng will give fully play to its leading position in the energy industry and its advantages in a wide range of industry scenarios, and Baidu will make full use of its technological advantages in AI, big data, and cloud computing to strengthen all-round cooperation and support the digital and intelligent upgrading of the energy industry.”

Baidu’s AI cloud has already offered intelligent energy solutions to the stated-owned energy companies. The company has signed strategic cooperation agreements with China biggest electricity distributor State Grid Corporation.

Under the agreement, Baidu helps State Grid to digitize and intelligently transform processes like energy production and electricity dispatching management.
