People in Wuhan are allowed to leave the city from 12am April 8, after the city has been sealed off from the outside world for 76 days since January 23rd.

Wuhan Municipal Cyberspace Administration announced on Weibo on March 24 that “In order to promote the resumption of socio-economic development and social production, China’s Central Committee of the Party decided to reopen Wuhan on April 8 based on Emergency Response Law of the People’s Republic of China, Law of the People’s Republic of China on Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, Hubei Province’s mechanism of emergency responses to the public health crisis, and related rules.”

Anyone in Wuhan with a green code on Alipay, Alibaba’s mobile payment platform, is allowed to leave the epicenter of coronavirus. People who leave will also have to measure their body temperatures.

The first person left Wuhan from Gongjialing toll station, Mr. Xiong, waited for 8 hours before 12am on April 8. More than 100 cars are waiting in the line behind Mr. Xiong to leave Wuhan at 12 am Wednesday.

75 toll stations are all open for people to leave the metropolis.

Restrictions on railway, flights, and ships are also eased.

Beijing limits the number of people to Beijing from Wuhan to 1000 people per day.
