Tencent, the Chinese gaming and social network colossus, enhanced its payment infrastructure in China with palm payment support on Tuesday, in collaboration with partners such as 7-Eleven convenience stores.

There are more than 1,500 7-Eleven stores across Guangdong, a province located in Southern China that now allows patrons to make purchases using WeChat Pay, a service embedded within Tencent’s WeChat app, as per a government release (in Chinese) from Shenzhen.

This alternative payment option has also been introduced for unattended charging bank rentals at Jiedian’s stations located within the Shenzhen Coastal City, a shopping complex in Guangdong Shenzhen since Tuesday. This significant step in modernizing in-mall transactions is the first instance of WeChat Pay incorporating palm payment technology into its platform.

WeChat introduced its palm payment feature in May, and it has since been implemented in a variety of applications, including public transportation, fitness centres, college campuses, retail stores, restaurants, offices, and shared battery charging stations.
