Chinese electric car maker BYD unveiled three electric vehicles, the Atto 3, Han and Tang, to the European market in an online launch on Wednesday.

Known as Yuan Plus in China, the Atto 3 is BYD's first SUV based on its own e-Platform 3.0, with a pre-sale price of 38,000 euros ($36,653.71). The pre-sale price of the company's flagship sedan Han and flagship SUV Tang is 72,000 euros.

It's worth noting that these pre-sale prices are for Germany, as a European reference, prices may vary by country.

All three models will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 2022, where final market prices and vehicle specifications will be announced.

In China, the starting prices of the three models before subsidies are 150,274 yuan ($20,869.94), 226,140 yuan and 291,140 yuan respectively.

Delivery will start from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. By the end of this year, customers in France and the UK will also receive BYD's zero-emission vehicles. After that, additional dealers will be appointed to support BYD's plan to cover all major European markets, the company said.

The company said launching passenger vehicles in European market was one of the most important milestones to date. Previously, BYD, itself a major supplier of batteries for EVs, focused on exporting buses, trucks, and other commercial vehicles to service the public institutions in abroad markets.

“We have high respect for the European auto industry and its ecosystem, including design, R&D, manufacturing, sales, aftersales network, and services. Our strategy is to work with established and respected local dealers who share our vision, to provide high-levels of customer service,”Michael Shu, General Manager and Managing Director, BYD Europe and International Cooperation Division, said.

Besides Europe, the Chinese EV maker has started scrappy expansion in Asia. In July, the company announced that it would release 3 EV models in Japan, starting in 2023. In Thailand, the automaker has plans to build an EV plant.

The company says it operates in more than 400 cities in 70-plus countries and territories around the world.

Data from China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) shows BYD alone sold 792,734 EVs in the first seven months of 2022, up 301% year-on-year, making it the world's No. 1 EV maker.
